3 Day Detox Diet


Basics

A 3 day detox diet is a good plan for people who want to detoxify their body in a short period of time. A three day detox diet is easy to follow and is accessible to everyone. Longer diets may be difficult to sustain. After all, it can be hard to fast for two weeks or to eat nothing but raw foods for a month.



The purpose of a detox diet is to flush toxins from the body and to allow the liver to recover. The liver is the organ that is responsible for filtering toxins from the blood. We take in so many toxins in the food we eat, the water we drink, and the air we breathe, that the liver can become overloaded with them. In addition, stress creates even more toxins that the liver must cope with. If the liver becomes unable to deal with so many toxins, they can back up into our system and cause health problems. A detox diet reduces or eliminates this problem.

Prevention

As discussed above, a 3 day detox diet can reduce or eliminate health problems caused by a build up of toxins in our system. Some of these health problems include digestive problems, skin problems, kidney problems, and liver problems. A three day detox diet can benefit people with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and heart disease. It can also benefit people with diabetes, but you will have to modify the diet so you don't have problems with your blood sugar. If you are diabetic, make sure you talk to your doctor before beginning the 3 day detox diet.

Treatment

For a week or so before your three day detox diet, prepare your body for the diet by eliminating alcohol and caffeine from your diet. Limit or eliminate your intake of "junk food," sugar, and red meat. Increase your intake of fresh fruits and vegetables. Drink at least ten glasses of water each day.

During the 3 day detox diet, drink nothing but filtered water. If you like, you can add a little fresh-squeezed organic lemon juice to the water. This will help flush the toxins out of your system. Eat light meals of steamed vegetables, fresh organic fruit, and a little brown rice.

Do some moderate exercise during your detox diet. It will improve your circulation, helping the toxins to leave your body, and sweating will help flush toxins from your body. Make sure to drink plenty of water so you stay well hydrated, though.

Following the three day detox diet, don't rush out to McDonald's. Eat lightly for the next several days. Eat fresh fruits and vegetables. Soups are good. Continue to drink at least ten glasses of water each day.

You can use an herbal supplement along with the 3 day detox diet to increase its effectiveness. Dandelion is a good herb to use, because it has a diuretic effect, meaning it helps flush toxins from your system, and it also supports liver functioning.
